ABOUT
Kalipunan ng mga Kabataan Para sa Kalikasan was conceived in 2005 in response to the UNEP’s call to engage the children and youth in environmental activities in order to protect and save the earth. This is an offshoot of the 2005 International Children’s World Summit for the Environment, which was attended by more than 600 children and chaperones all over the world in Toyohashi City, Japan. Among these more than 600 children and chaperones, 10 children are from the Philippines, among which is Marie Julienne Camille Sapuay, the founding chairman.
Kalipunan ng mga Kabataan Para sa Kalikasan simply known as KaliKaSan aims to promote environmental awareness among children and youth and encourage information exchange with other environment groups of children in the country and around the world. Its vision is to enable a generation of environmentally and socially responsible citizens capable of positive action.
This initiative is meant to foster camaraderie among children and youth and develop activities in the areas of environmental awareness and capacity building and empowerment of young people. It follows the strategy of UNEP with the aim of providing the children and youth with information tools on how to treat the Earth with care and thereby helping avert climate change and its impacts in order to create a better world for the future generations.
KaliKasan is monitored by a Board of Advisers that helps steer the children’s activities and help establish linkages with other institutions and organizations involved in environmental protection.
