  • PLANT FOR THE PLANET PRESS RELEASE

  • Reuben James Penaflor Sapuay (11 years old) promises to mobilize the planting of one million trees in the Philippines to act the words "Stop talking. Start planting."

Reuben James demands of the adults to: "Stop talking. Start planting! Filipino students are taking their future into their own hands. Today Reuben James (11 years old)) and his friends at Kalipunan ng mga Kabataan para sa Kalikasan (KALIKASAN) declared to promote the planting of one million trees in the Philippines. In doing so, the children show that they take responsibility for their future. They demand the same of the politicians and world leaders in order to protect and save our beautiful planet EARTH.

On Aug. 17-20, 2009 Reuben James participated in the UNEP Tunza International Children and Youth Conference in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. There, he and hundreds of other children from all over the world worked on a common declaration which can be summarized as "Stop talking. Start planting!"

The Filipino children and youth are not the only ones to plant tress. 132 children from 56 countries have pledged to plant one million trees, in the next three years, in each of their countries to help reduce the adverse effects of climate change. A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 22 kg (48 lbs.) per year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support two human beings.1

    STOP TALKING AND START PLANTING…NOW!
